Mixed Berry Smoothie Goodness

It’s breakfast, that tastes like dessert or some sort of yogurt.

I love it when the start of my day is so sweet and nutritious <3 I added a few of my favorite ingredients, almost all of the ingredients are optional.

I typically have a smoothie or juice after working out in the morning, so my concoctions have a lot of supplements and or powders added for some extra cleansing, blood cleaning and to give me another wind of energy.

Mixed Berry Smoothie Goodness

Photo: Mixed frozen berries (raspberries, strawberries and blackberries), jasmine tea, coconut oil, cinnamon, vanilla, earth powder, chlorella, matcha green powder, acai, and ground flax seeds. This reminds me of dessert and at the same time yogurt.

1-2 cups frozen mixed berries (I used strawberries, raspberries and blueberries)

1 cup of your favorite tea (today I used Rooibos, yesterday when I made this smoothie I used Spring Dragon Tea a very flowery jasmine green tea)

1 teaspoon or more Coconut Oil (I think this is part of the yogurt like feel I achieved with this smoothie)

1 teaspoon lime juice

1 teaspoon lemon juice (I like adding these citrus juices because it makes the flavor in the berries jump out and makes it extra sweet)

Optional but amazing from warmth and cleansing; cinnamon, vanilla, earth powder, chlorella, matcha green powder and acai powder. I recommend a teaspoon or less of each :-)

2 tablespoons ground flax seeds

Blend until smooth and possibly add ice or more tea/water if needed!

I’ve linked previous posts discussing the health benefits, taste, appearance and texture of these ingredients for anyone who is curious :D

Health Benefits of Berries

Berries may seem too sweet to be healthy for some people. But they are amazing for arthritis, blood flow, increasing bone density, lowering ones blood pressure, yummy source of fiber, and typically if someone absolutely “hates” fruits and vegetables they will eat some sort of berry ;-)

In a study of 72 middle-age people published recently in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, eating just under a cup of mixed berries daily for eight weeks was associated with increased levels of “good” HDL cholesterol and lowered blood pressure, two positives when it comes to heart health. Included in the mix were strawberries, red raspberries and bilberries—similar to blueberries—as well as other berries more common in Finland (where the research was conducted): black currants, lingonberries and chokeberries.

I was asked a great question by a friend the other day about smoothies. My smoothie recipes range all over the place from being smaller smoothies like this one where it is just fruit and a few other things, while sometimes I add vegetables, coconut water or sesame seed milk. I really go off of what nutrients and needs I have for the day. If I know I am going to have lunch in a few hours a smoothie like this one that I posted today is perfect.

If I feel like I got a serious work out and want to get some extra water, sweetness, and electrolytes back into my body I might add coconut water.

When I want my smoothie to really fill me up and serve as a larger meal, adding dark leafy greens, celery and so on is perfect.

If I want to make an herbal tonic, and not a smoothie, I personally prefer using sesame seed milk and some of my favorite herbs for the immune system, cleansing and women’s health promoting items.

What I am looking for in a meal, smoothie, my day and so on is completely different from someone else.

The best way to figure it out is to think about your personal needs, cravings and so forth :-) Making meals should be fun in some shape or form. It is not a punishment or anything of the sorts! So please experiment with it and have oodles of fun. Usually when you put more fun and love into food you can end up tasting and feeling it.

I do have a fairly large list of books that I have found helpful with detoxing and cleansing, especially for those “new” to vegetarian, vegan and or raw food. The list is longer then I wished so it will have to be a completely separate post with may be just one recipe that is simple. I don’t want to loss any of you!

Thank you all for stopping by and I hope you all have a wonderful weekend! Much love <3 and raw power ;-)
